I started posting here 14 years ago soon after my father died before his 60th birthday. There is no bigger reminder for me that time is limited.
Agree. Our situations are so similar I could have written the OP!I envy you a little, Wannaretireearly. We have no clue what we want in retirement. How do you go about figuring that out?
I have a friend that quit work over the summer, similar aged teenage kids. He says it’s been great and he has plenty.
DW and I have a plan. The last date I said we would work in corporate is June 2029. Definitely need a break and do what we want after that date (both kids done with grade school in 2029).Yeah, we were just chatting about the same thing. Finding an "optional" job for "only" 5-6 years can be demotivating.
The more interesting discussion is not needing to work corporate in 2 years if forced into layoff etc. Within touching distance of that soft milestone. I personally want more $ in taxable for the 10 years prior to us turning 59.5.Thanks for the kind words.
The good thing is these milestones all seem to be coming up fairly quickly. Just a few short years left. I admire how you’ve accumulated on one ‘big’ income. Shows how well you’ve saved/invested plus managed expenses. Really well done
I don't want the years to go by too fast. That just means that we'll be empty-nesters soon
Both DW and I are on the same page to quit in a few years and at least slow travel for a few years.
I’m done with corporate. I enjoy my team and colleagues. But I am still done. That shows the pressure some of these jobs put on us.
I would have quit at age 45 if I didn’t have kid obligations. I’ll push it to age 50. Luckily the finances should work out given everything I’ve learned here
