I have a letter to my trustee that explains a lot of my wishes. It's not only about how to manage the portfolio. It's things like philosophies towards financing, education or other needs like counseling or cars or just things that I think might come up. And it's part of a larger letter that includes instructions for the situation where I am incapacitated but still living and how to manage my ongoing affairs in that case and then there's portions of this document that are not for the trustee at all but therefore the person who's my medical power of attorney.
None of this is in the legal documents. This is a file that lives on my computer and physical backup drives that are in hidden spaces I've told people about. In case of an emergency the backup drives include like my entire photo albums and other documents that people would need. If something happened to me or thick documents and photos I would want the children have access to someday. Honestly, it's smart to have backup drives for your own use in case you ever have a laptop stolen. So it's part of my personal plan for protecting from that or from a fire or theft. But also I keep this letter updated a couple times a year.
