There is this thing called inflation.
and another one called progress. That's how we went from stock market transaction fees of maybe $35 (~1995 dollars to be sure) to $0 now.
Vanguard is not improving their service offering; arguably they have made it substantially worse.
No need for them to increase fees.
You are not really paying zero, the fees they make are hidden.

As far as I am concerned they are making service substantially better, by getting rid of bad clients who use too much service and pay too little.
The email I got listed a bunch of fees that don't affect MOST clients. Why should clients with edge case needs or worse clients who are leaving, get any benefit of cost cutting ? The clients who STAY should get the benefit of cost cutting and technology investment.
Oh, so now we have good clients and bad clients.
