Investing - Theory, News & General • Re: Is pre-tax 401k the asymmetric bet?

Roth came out in 1998 and I was already over the income limit by a few grand. I have been in nothing but a 401k/IRA since which I have no issue with and certainly like the deductions now. I am pretty sure I will not be doing Roth conversions though I will end up with a Roth 401k when catchup contributions swicth to post tax for high earners in 2026.

I mostly say this because I am a medium high earner in a VHCOL but will be retiring to a rural VLCOL area in the future and my tax situation will be flipping. I also may not top over 1M in the 401k unless we have another decade or two run. We will see since making plans now doesnt mean that is how it will happen.

I am one who still bets on my traditional IRA and 401k :)
