LOL. So true toddthebod. We told you over and over again not to bother, but you kept telling us how stressful this was. This was your choice.Ok so my refund went down to $1,466 from $1,478.If you do not amend, they will add the amount shown on the 1099-INT to your line 2b amount, then their software will percolate the adjustment down the return and bill you for the increased tax owed as a result. How will IRS know what to bill me?
If you do amend, you tell them on form 1040-X your old values, your new values, and how much you calculate you owe.
I owe $12 but it is a hassle doing this because one simple missed form and I have to print, copy, use ink, stamp, envelope, and a trip to USPS. It was my first time anyway.
OP: Yes, if you go through with it, that's what you do. Also, you should know, it might take the IRS a long time to cash the $12 check. Normally it's measured in weeks, but it can take months for them to cash the check, sometimes. Be patient.
