With your salary I'd go ahead and pull the trigger. If after a few years you decide it was the wrong decision and sell it, I think you'd come out neutral value wise at worst. Prices have escalated crazily the last 4 years, but I really don't see them crashing. As noted above, these are still busy (and spectacular) places in the summer. If climate change shortens the ski season, it'll still be a cooler spot than Denver in the summer.
To get to Winter Park/Mary Jane you exit 70 before the tunnels, for Steamboat, after. Winter Park is much more of a locals ski area versus summit county, although I'm guessing OP is aware of that.
What happened to Keystone? And if already stationed in Summit county, the drive to Vail or Beaver Creek from Breckenridge or Keystone is about an hour, weather permitting. If you get something in the area near Copper/Breck/A-Basin you have your choice of 3 resorts and I don't think you'll get bored. You could alternate passes each year if you start to tire of doing the same runs. Steamboat is beautiful, but a much longer drive, especially under winter storm conditions. Winter Park is nice and not as far as Steamboat, another option to consider. I can't remember if the turnoff for Winter Park and Steamboat is before or after the Eisenhower tunnel, but I remember the tunnel being where the worst traffic was when I used to go up to Copper or Breck, so those options could save you some hassle if you have to drive down on a Sunday night.

Very true. I don't ski anymore but I think even when I did I preferred summer in the mountain towns over winter. Weather is often touch and go but the cool, dry sunny days w/ awesome scenery are the real winner for me.Most of the CO resort communities are now busy 9-10 months of the year. Summer in aspen is at least as busy if not busier. There is actually more that will be a fit for family than winter only.
