Your example is interesting because with a mere $5,000,000 portfolio at age 55 Mr. Jones would only need to withdraw 2% to replace his salary, but he would have less taxes to pay since the withdrawal from the portfolio does not incur FICA/Medicare taxes and some would be untaxed return-of-capital. Rough life I suppose.Isn't this a hard reality to face? Good enough is, as good enough does... or something like that. But this "good enough" is for our mythical Mr. Jones the difference between retiring at 55 vs. 65 or later. Not exactly minor, is it?
