Investing - Theory, News & General • Re: The Final, Definitive Thread on Brokerage Transfer Bonuses

FYI - on an eTrade RETENTION Promo.

I was calling up today to follow up getting added as a POA to my wife's brokerage account. Immediately after handling the business, he offered me a Retention Bonus. As I asked for details, he tried to point me to where I could find it on their site - I could not - only their new account offer was on there.

He checked the system & w/ his manager and said it's called "Retention Promo 24" or "RMPROMO24". He said it would take 60 days to reflect, and I only need to keep the $ in that long (no 12 months holding time).

He didn't give me the glidepath of the bonus, but for me ($1.0-$1.9MM) it was $4500. I think for $2MM and above it was $7500.

I was looking at some of the other brokerages (TastyTrade, M1), but $4500 to keep the money there (for now) seemed like a good deal! If you have eTrade and are shopping around, it may be worth it to give them a call. It only took a few minutes. I'll likely keep the $ there for now until one of the other bigger brokerages has a similar offer...as all the offers I've evaluated over the past year are on the Fintech ones, which make me a bit nervous.
I'm confused. He volunteered to tell you about a 60-day retention bonus when you had given him no indication that you were thinking about leaving?
