I’d start looking into the dog-acceptance rate of those renting their condos out. It doesn’t matter about the condo rules if the renter won’t allow it.

As far as biking back and forth to work, are you interested in doing that in. Highly urbanized environment? I used to bike there, but stopped because I came to consider it too risky.

As far as neighborhoods for rental homes, you might try upper Makiki, Tantalus, St. Louis Heights, Wilhelmina Rise. If you can afford a Diamond Head or Kahala address, more power to you. There are a lot of rental condo apartments right on the beach in a condo next to the Kahala Hotel. That might be the perfect place.
