It's not that complicated.I mentioned the $40K I see on here since there is a wide gulf between that and my spending, so either I am missing something, they are missing something in their budget, or our circumstances are wildly different (live in LCOL area with paid-off house, low property tax + no insurance).
No mortgage, set-aside for new car, kids' activities, dining out, travel, and pets would be $38k you're not spending.
These are not things that you are going to cut from your budget. So your spend is your spend if you wish to maintain your current lifestyle.
Simple.
