Certainly not intentionally snarky. I added no commentary to OP’s overall choice of investment strategy so would be surprised if the OP perceived my reply as such.Just one of many examples:I thought they were treated pretty gently, given the importance of communicating how poor their strategy is.
“No gold, or any other precious metals held directly at least.
I do, however hold plenty of toothpaste.”
The sort-of-quip about my stash of toothpaste, which is true, was mostly in reply to the fun tone I inferred from OP’s post, and an acknowledgement of sorts to a perceived side benefit some people find if they like to hold precious metals as an asset class.
The tone of my original reply was direct given OP’s direct question in the subject line. Also, because I replied from my phone which was a first, I accidently omitted my usual polite sign off.
But since I am here again, I will admit it felt like OP’s question was an unnecessary post to begin with, akin to “where do I put cash?” type questions being asked lately, and sometimes more than once on any given day.
The OP could have easily searched the forum directly or indirectly via a web browser, returning many posts answering their original question and read some fantastic responses offering both sides of the gold debate (or other topics). I have certainly enjoyed and learned from such many posts.
Obviously, there is no problem people wanting to learn and people come to the forum with different levels of knowledge, but I think not an unreasonable expectation either that posters put in a modicum of effort in searching before posting. Perhaps that’s why replies are sometimes snippety.
I know I have plenty to learn and whilst my questions/particular contexts are new to me, they are hardly new in 2024 – one way or another somebody must have already asked. I try researching before posting and invariably find prior posts that provide an answer, or at the least point me in the direction for further research to expand my understanding. I am very appreciative of the wealth of knowledge that is graciously offered on this forum and the time people take to reply and help each other out. I try to be respectful of this before I initiate a post, but perhaps that's just me.
All the best.
