Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Re: Taxability of 529 scholarship withdrawal

TurboTax isn't taxing any of the earnings, but I think it should be (the earnings attached to the scholarship withdrawal), hence my question.
I'd be tempted to just manhandle TT to put the correct numbers on 1040 schedule 1 line 8z and 5329 part II. But I dislike interview style tax prep products. Also, if you manhandle some tax prep software, it might not let you e-file. Since you mention he's filing an extension, maybe he cares about e-file, maybe not.
