I won’t use Spirit or Frontier or Allegiant. The problem isn’t the pricing model, it’s how they operate. To save costs they’re running the same plane all day, and generally don’t have backups. So if there’s a weather delay, a mechanical issue, or a crew issue, every single flight after that is going to be delayed or cancelled. And then you have to deal with their horrible customer service to get rebooked.
It also seems that they run with skeleton crews and don’t pay for enough gates at the airport. It seems that any time I’d arrive in Denver early on a frontier flight we’d sit on the tarmac forever until a frontier gate or gate agent became available, despite the airport looking completely empty.
