Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Re: If you self-insured for health, how did it go?

I'll add a tidbit from a podcast I heard awhile ago that changed my perspective on health insurance.

The goal of health insurance isn't to "maximize its value", in fact if anything the less you use it, the more likely it means you had a fairly healthy life. It may seem like a waste a money, but in the whole grand scheme of things I am sure 9/10 people would value health more than "wasting money on health insurance".
… and the same applies to homeowners insurance, automobile insurance, etc. Not once have I felt sorry that I wasted my auto insurance because I didn’t crash.
