Because something has never happened does not mean it's unlikely. Accidents happen all the time. It's a gamble, but if you're comfortable with a huge surgery bill or something over saving that $1500 on monthly premiums, you can make that call
Yes, agreed. Hard to know what will happen, but your assumption is that if you need surgery, insurance will pay for it. It's not really how insurance works these days. They play all these games to avoid paying. My brother had his appendix removed; he had insurance, but since the hospital was out-of-network, he owed $20k. Nothing you can do about it. He even called before the surgery, and they told him, it was covered; it wasn't. Tough luck kid. You can sue; sure, they know this, but they also know legal fees will be about the same to recover the 20k. The bills have to be in minimum of 100k range for lawsuits to be worth it.
