Tough experiences. Especially your younger sister. My father died in his early 60's when I was in college. I don't know what his retirement plan was (he didn't have much savings), but he never got to retire. My younger sister planned to retire early when she turned 60 because she was getting burn out. She had plans to retire to some beautiful place but she died suddenly in her 40's. I feel fortunate to be alive and hope to be enjoy a long enough retirement, but I am often not certain I will get there. If not, then I hope to leave enough money to my family to continue on. Unlike the rest of my family, I seemed to lack sentimentality.
My pops died before 60. I have to remember the way he lived and try to ensure we live for today.
I am not retired, but expect even in the most optimistic mind, that things won’t go as expected.i like how Watty frames this. Our retirement is not pass or failure like some calculators show.
Just getting to a retirement will likely lead to different vocation for some of us. One of the reasons I like the book ‘die with zero’ is it forces you to think differently.
Do I want to do the same things day in day out, with the same people and in the same location? One life: let’s take some calculated risks.
