Personal Consumer Issues • Re: Best way to find a remote work

This remote work concept really evolved to something else. You can check yourself by going to Costco at anytime of the day and you can see people talking over the phone on highly important matters (you can tell) as if they are on a conference call with bunch of CEOs and such. They just have flip flops on while pushing a cart with 2 kids on and sometimes wife calls on the other line and he responds "I am working honey". I have seen this hundreds of times. I bet they probably make more than 300K while wearing flip flops with no daily rush commuting.
Here’s the kicker. They are probably as likely as not on PTO, it’s an off day, or they are running errands at lunch but have gotten called into something or feel they have to be present for something. I was enjoying a little remote working myself Saturday cause after hours with no resolution they wanted my input and called. For some people there are no boundaries with remote work. You’re sort of always working. To the extent people seem to have flexibility it might be because they spent 12 hours the night before but still can’t get away from responsibilities during day so yapping in Cosco as you say. This is at its worst for managers. They put in a full day plus never miss a meeting cause they hop on no matter where they are or what they are doing. There is always some sort of issue coming up and never ending meetings.

Just because you don’t have to get dressed doesn’t mean it isn’t work. I love just rolling out of bed a walking across the hall to the office but it’s still work. In someways it feels worse at times because you feel like you have to account for your time and be seen to be available. At the office you can walk away for a legitimate break and not have people second guess what you are up to and if working fully or not. I really only feel comfortable stepping away for a minute or two except at lunch. At the office I had no qualms about taking a lap around the building mid morning and afternoon.
