The suggestion I was responding to was driving not flying.Amtrak is usually cheaper than flying from places like BOS, NY, PHL, DC I think. It’s also faster, in that you just show up at the train station. No check in lines, no arriving 1 hour early. No boarding 45 mins ahead of time. No long ride from airport to downtown. Overall maybe more efficient even if you spend a little more on the train itself, because you save time stress and taxiEurope trains are cheap. Amtrak - not so much. Have you priced this out yet?No thanks.Parking in NYC and downtown Philly and DC? Plus hotel parking fee if staying in city ?Skip the train, drive. Its about as fast and more convenient. Also more comfortable, private, and cost effective.
We took a lot of trains in Europe last year and enjoyed it.
I have done many flights and trains between all these cities many times (mostly for business) and I agree - train beats flying usually. However, if I was the OP I would be tempted to rent a car - would allow travel to some more interesting spots versus just being constrained to the city. And may come out cheaper depending whether you are paying $60 nightly to park in a city or a bit less just outside.
