After we left one of the big banks years ago after they purchased a small, local bank and subsequently changed pretty much everything that led us there in the first place, we switched to a credit union and never looked back.
We use the credit union for only the basics: A checking account, a decent credit card and a safety deposit box. Checking account is high-yield-ish, but only for the first $10K. If I want yield beyond that, then it's MM funds, ultrashort bond funds and T-Bills. Customer service has been absolutely superb.
Cheers.
