Given health issues, if there is any chance that retiring (temporarily or permanently ) will help I’d go that route. You can always go back to work if you later choose to. Since retiring about a year ago, there are times where I feel like I should be more productive, but the stress is a lot less and I’ve had more time to work out, lose weight, etc.
In your case, you are truly financially independent, and if you don’t love your job what’s the point of continuing to do it? Maybe you’ll like retirement better, maybe you won’t, but you’ll never find out until you try it.
