I've been a long time user of TurboTax but considering switching to FreeTaxUSA this year.

One question - does FreeTaxUSA offer an option to fill out the third party designee part in Form 1040? TurboTax Desktop version does but wondering if FreeTaxUSA does as well.
It looks like yes, on the "Miscellaneous Forms and Topics" page there is a section titled "Third Party Designee" with this help text:
Third Party Designee
Third Party Designee

You can designate your preparer, a friend, a family member, or any other person you choose to discuss your tax return with the IRS and state tax department. For example, the IRS or state tax department can call the designated person to answer any questions that they may have with the processing of your tax return.

You're also giving the designee permission to:

Give the IRS or state tax department any information that is missing from your return.
Call the IRS or state tax department for information about the processing of your return and the status of your refund or payment.
Receive copies of notices or transcripts related to your return.
Respond to certain IRS or state tax department notices about math errors, offsets, and return preparation.

You're basically authorizing the designated person to handle any discussions with the IRS and state tax department for your 2024 tax return. You're not giving the designee permission to receive any refund check, bind you to anything, or represent you before the IRS.

The designee's authorization will automatically end no later than the due date (without extensions) for filing your 2025 tax return.
I did not click the "Start" button for it, since that option doesn't apply to me.
