That movie has stuck with me since I saw it in the theater more than 50 years ago. That and The Haunting (1963) based on The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson.Doesn't seem to have had any staying power, but if you can find it, "Wait until Dark" probably qualifies.
The old ones had lots of tension and shock without the gore.
