I would try to cut back and save as much cash as you can for your emergency fund. I'm a former fed but was laid off from my private sector job. I'm going on 8 months on the job search... I've been searching from day 1, but it's been a much longer and frustrating process to fight the RIGHT job that is a good STRATEGIC fit. I'm not stressing too much because I built up a 12 month emergency fund and have other $$ I can access, but it still doesn't feel great. Worse case, you save extra cash, you don't get laid off or you find a different job and then you can use some of that extra new cash to pay down/off the car loan.
