Investing - Theory, News & General • Re: New version of PortfolioVisualizer?

Or maybe someone who works in the UI/UX design profession can chime in and explain these proliferating aberrations?
The unfortunate answer is that you're an outlier. Most people prefer this style of design and are able to complete their tasks more easily. At a lot of companies, there's a ton of research that goes into designing user interaction.
I'm fairly certain that the people in this thread count as people. Your "most" assertion is far less certain.
They do count as people, but they are also not representative of the general population. The "most" assertion isn't less certain. It's based on a lot of data I've personally seen and collected. I've been involved in quite a lot of user research over the years, both from a consumer and B2B perspective. More importantly, I've also been involved in actually implementing the findings of that research and instrumenting the results, so I have a good sense of how it actually works in practice. You are free to not believe me, but that doesn't change the fact that you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
Well, we do see that there are people in this thread who say that some tasks are less convenient than before (contrary to your "complete their tasks more easily" assertion). Prior to the UI revision, there were perhaps hundreds of references to PortfolioVisualizer on this forum, and the percentage of those that complained about tasks being difficult was approximately (if not exactly) zero. Now, with the new UI, I'm not seeing too many comments saying "They finally fixed the usability problems with PortfolioVisualizer, YAY!"

At the same time, there were various comments in other threads explaining that some of the UI style trends have to do with convenience of software development rather than other reasons. And it's not unheard of that sometimes corporate research is influenced by business expediency (whether conscious or unconscious). To take a position that that's impossible simply goes against known facts, and to claim that it didn't happen in this case is unconfirmed.

Regarding whether I believe your conclusion, I accept that you have an opinion that happens to be consistent with the corporate narrative, and that's fine. So what we have are multiple perspectives on the matter... and if it's now "the thing" to label everyone who disagrees with the trendy-UI corporate narrative as having "absolutely no idea what [they're] talking about", well... harrumph!
If what PV has devolved into is in demand on any scale larger than 5 people, I’ve officially jumped the shark on Planet Earth.

I’ve never once complained about VG or any company’s UI experience and find most people who do to sound out of touch and whiny. But this PV change, it’s like an April Fools Joke.
