In most of the country, heat pumps no longer need a backup heat source. Search "hyper heat".
That would only apply if the OP actually had a low ambient heat pump installed, which is relatively rare in the US outside of mini split units. Otherwise, outside of states that rarely get below freezing, almost every heat pump is usually specified with a backup heat source (typically natural gas or electric heat strips)
My Bosch have had no issues making hot air into the single digits, which is as far as they’ve been stressed thus far
