Hmm, my RMD doesn't start until I'm 73 (6 years from now) and I'll retire in a few months. So, if I have to take RMD first before conversion to Roth, does it mean I won'e be able to do any conversions for the next 6 years?
Before you need to take RMDs (up through age 72 in your case), you can do Roth conversions whenever you like.

After you need to start taking RMDs (age 73 onward in your case), you must complete each year's RMD before you can do any Roth conversions in that year.
