Absolutely this is what we did with our daughters when they were growing up. We would ask where do you want to go on vacation? We would get a few suggestions and plan accordingly. As a family we saw 40 states and a 2 week trip to Italy. 1 trip was a month long and we flew to San Diego and drove to Vancouver, BC. in a minivan. They were 11 and 15 it was a great trip. Our daughters and husbands visit us for a week or so when we spend a month at PEI. We visited many times when they were young and growing up. In fact my oldest was engaged while visiting the island. Typically we would spend 2 weeks traveling the USA and 2 weeks on PEI. My wife worked in a school so she had off the entire summer. Me I worked in corporate America and had a ton of vacation. Take advantage of traveling when they are young it’s amazing how much they remember.I would ask my kids what they want to do this summer with the time off and spend it in that way making memories.
