If I were to hazard a guess at "why 2am?", I would guess it's because the LEDs are one of the brightest lights in your house overnight, so the gnats can find it more easily.3
At certain times of the year there are "nats/Knats" tiny flying things that get into the detectors and set off the photoelectric sensor. They are attracted to the tiny LED light in the detectors. Why at 2:00 A.M. ??
Cold weather does negatively affect some types of batteries, although usually that's referring to outdoor temps (near/at/below freezing) and not indoor temps. That's one of the challenges with adopting EVs in colder climates.4
I read somewhere that the battery voltages drop when the battery is cold so if our thermostat is set wrong and the temps drop in winter, they can set off the detectors if the batteries are already at lower than new levels.
I don't know.
