Yeah, Fidelity did the same thing to me a few years back, took the PCG rep about 30-45 minutes of talking with people in the back office to figure out how to get me a new card, then it took about 2 weeks to ship it to me. Like you I barely ever used it.We've not had any issues with the CMA (and ACH transactions themselves), but I am currently dealing with an unannounced (no notification) debit card cancellation. No fraud, 3 years from expiration, have used the card before (normally keep it locked), just went to use it one day after unlocking it a week or more prior and it was declined. After more than an hour on hold with debit card services, was told it was cancelled due to lack of use and they could not reactivate it. Meanwhile spouse's card which has never been used and has always been locked is still active on the same CMA.
Fidelity CS escalated last week, but I haven't heard anything further.
I decided the opposite, had been using my CMA for most everything, like a bank for a few years. However, because of all the reported issues with Fidelity and their third party providers (UMB, Lenders, PNC, etc), I decided to go back to Alliant for my day-to-day banking needs.I was planning to close our Alliant CU account as part of our consolidation to Fidelity, but won't be doing that anytime soon after this.
I actually closed my Fidelity Debit card last week (since I don't do much of any international travel and the $20 ATM reimbursement from Alliant is more then enough for me), but am keeping the CMA for Bill Pay, since their Bill Pay interface and payment speed are better then Alliant's. Otherwise all my day-to-day banking (Check Deposits, Check writing, ATM, etc) is going through Alliant again.
That said, we don't do a lot of banking. In a given year, I might have 3-4 checks that I need to deposit, haven't written a personal check in 3 or 4 years now and maybe I get cash at an ATM 1-2 times. Likely could of just kept using Fidelity, but if I there had been a problem with a personal check or Debit card fraud, I just didn't want to get caught between Fidelity and it's providers.
