I've been a big Dave Matthews fan for a long time. He's covered Angel from Montgomery from time to time over the years.I have always thought of John Prine as a folk singer with a quirky sense of humor. However I have since done a deep dive and can appreciate why his fans are so passionate. Having built up my Prine library up I started to look at covers. I think that like Bob Dylan, he is a singer's songwriter. By this I mean the quality of his songwriting is so good that performer's get a lot of meat to sink their teeth into and create musical magic.
The first cover is "That's the Way That the World Goes Round" by Miranda Lambert. Purist may cringe but it has a lot of sass with the quirky lyrics that I thought was vintage Prine:

Next is Nanci Griffith's version of "The Speed of the Sound of Loneliness" It's a lovely song and this version has Mr Prine singing harmony:

Brandi Carlisle does a spare but beautiful version of "I Remember Everything":

Nathaniel Rateliff sings "Summer's End". Hard to say what is my favorite JP tune, but his one is moving up fast:

Finally Indie Rock singer Kurt Vile does his version of "How Lucky". This one is kind of cheat as a cover since it really is a duet between Mr. Vile and John Prine. The sound quality is not the greatest but this may be one of the last live performances of John Prine, it was released the year after he died. Very moving when you think of that:

Here is the recorded version of the duet:

I am now an avid fan and collector of John Prine and John Prine covers. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
