Where do you get that kids raised right will blow through inherited wealth they receive in their 40’s, 50’s, or 60’s? Or that they won’t work or contribute to society? I don’t think the previous poster was talking about an 18 year old getting millions. I, for one, want to provide my kids (thru years of compound interest) with a decent retirement of their own. The days of pensions are over and none of us know what will happen to SS so if a parent wants stay invested for their kids retirement then I see nothing wrong with that. These aren’t lottery winners here. This site comprises people who built wealth a dollar at a time for years and probably raised their adult children that way. The vast majority of large dollar inheritances are passed at older ages so the idea they won’t be working is not accurate. My twins are 22 so I figure they’ll get my money in their 50’s or 60’s when they have already given 30 years as a productive person. But, if my wife and I die suddenly while they are in their 20’s, I have no doubt they will continue the same path they are on now. For some reason, the media has brainwashed people into believing “inheritance” is a bad word because they only show the far extreme, like a Paris Hilton, or an athletes kid. They never show the boring guy who inherited 10million at age 61 because his smart dad died at 85.Inherited wealth typically gets blown quickly. Maybe your kids will be the exception. I'm not interested in enriching descendants such that they don't have to work and contribute to society. They'll get something via trust in periodic payments and the rest goes to charity.Who’s in the game? I’m at 95/5 and my children are in the on-deck circle, and we feel we’re investing for them since our pensions and SS cover all living expenses, including travel and gifting, and we have LTC covered. Our 5% is in cash, which gets supplemented by savings from our pensions and SS.Same situation, but at 40/60 and the 40 is entirely U.S.
If you've won the game, why keep playing?
